Roland T. Rust Receives AMA's Gil Churchill Award for Lifetime Achievement
College Park, MD - Roland T. Rust is the fifth annual winner of the
Gilbert A. Churchill Award for Lifetime Achievement in Marketing
Research, awarded by the American Marketing Association's
Marketing Research Special Interest Group. The previous winners
of the award are Paul Green (Wharton), William Perreault (North
Carolina), Seenu Srinivasan (Stanford), and Vijay Mahajan
(Texas).
Rust, the David Bruce Smith Chair in Marketing at the Robert H.
Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, is especially
known for his role in introducing quantitatively rigorous,
but strategically meaningful, research methods into the field
of service marketing. He had previously won lifetime achievement
awards in the fields of advertising and statistics, as well
as the Henry Latané Distinguished Doctoral Alumnus
Award from the University of North Carolina. Rust's sixth
and most recent book, Driving Customer Equity (The
Free Press, 2000),written with co-authors Valarie Zeithaml
and Katherine Lemon, provides a strategic framework for basing
corporate strategy on customer lifetime value.
Rust has won best article awards for articles in the Journal of Marketing,
Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, and Journal
of Retailing, and is one of only a handful of people to have
published in the Journal of Marketing Research in four different
decades. He is the founder and chair of the AMA Frontiers in Services
Conference, and founding editor of the Journal of Service Research.
He serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Marketing
Research, Journal of Marketing, and Marketing Science.
